SELF-DRIVE ROUTE – ROUND-TRIP FROM WHITEHORSE   DAY 1 Whitehorse Arrive in Whitehorse and pick up your rental vehicle (Standard SUV) from the airport depot. Then drive to your hotel for an overnight stay.   DAY 2 Haine’s Junction (154km) Today you will head west through small villages and scenic countryside to Haine’s Junction, situated on the edge of the massive Kluane National Park.   DAY 3 Beaver Creek (291km) Continue your drive west. On arrival, enjoy an incredible flightseeing tour to see the spectacular sights of Kluane National Park. The St. Elias mountains rise up from the sweeping lines of the glacier fields, the highest being Mt. Logan.   DAY 4 Fairbanks (500km) DAY 4 Cross over into the United States today (visa required) and travel the Alaska Highway, passing through a chain of small towns such as Tok, Delta Junction and Eilelson.   DAY 5 Denali National Park (265km) Today’s route takes you along the George Parks Highway, across the Tanana River and onto Denali National Park. Driving south you’ll soon see Mount Denali, North America’s tallest peak, that marks the entrance to the park.   DAY 6 Denali National Park Today is a day at leisure to explore the area – keep a watch out for wildlife that live in this area, including Dall sheep, moose, grizzly bears and deer.   DAY 7 Anchorage (380km) Continue southbound today, traversing vast woodlands of spruce, birch and aspen. The dense evergreen forests and windswept mountains give way to the lush Matanuska River Valley.   DAY 8 Anchorage Today take time to explore Alaska’s largest city at your own pace. Perhaps visit the Alaska Native Heritage Centre. You can take a stroll through the beautiful displays of the Anchorage Botanical Gardens and end the day with the famous Alaskan king crab.   DAY 9 Tok (520km) Today you travel east along highways just above fjords and inlets. This is a popular area to stop and take advantage of the easy walking trail that parallels the glacier and the Matanuska River.   DAY 10 Dawson City (300km) Cross back into Canada at Little Gold Camp – the highest border crossing. Following the aptly named Top-of-the-World Highway, the road continues onto the riverside town of Dawson City, one of the major focal points of the Gold Rush.   DAY 11 Dawson City DAY Relive the days of prospecting with a day exploring this historic city. Many original buildings have stood the test of time while others have been faithfully restored to their original grandeur. We recommend a visit to Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Gambling Hall, Canada’s oldest and most unique casino.   DAY 12 Whitehorse (535km) Today the Klondike Highway takes you back to the southern region of the Yukon Pass through the traditional hunting grounds of the Kaska people. Perhaps stop at one of the Gold Rush staging posts.   DAY 13 Whitehorse Today embark on a full-day scenic trip along the South Klondike Highway to Fraser; British Columbia.
